I study how international finance and economic power shape conflict, state-building, and domestic politics. My book, Hierarchy and the State (Cambridge University Press, 2025), shows how American economic influence has affected institutional capacity in partner countries. My research has been published in leading political science and international relations journals, including the British Journal of Political Science, Journal of Conflict Resolution, and Journal of Politics.

My wider research examines sovereign debt, war finance, and the politics of development. Current projects explore sovereign credit risk assessment, international land transactions, and critical minerals.

I teach a Data for Development course at the University of Glasgow and Regression Analysis for ICPSR. My recent work focuses on how LLMs can be integrated into quantitative research workflows, with particular attention to transparency and replication. Related workshop materials are publicly available on GitHub.

I lead the International Political Economy and Development subject group at the University of Glasgow.
